We regret to tell you that the Georgetown Book Shop is no longer in business as a book shop. At Clyde the Glide (and maybe the late Johnny Most) might put it, we survived and thrived for 23 years, but the writing has been on the wall for used book stores ever since the rise of the internet, and we frankly have no interest in playing King Canute with our retirement fund. Compliments are peachy, but they don't pay the bills.

This will NOT affect our internet sites, but it will prevent you from dropping in on the bookshop and seeing all our posters displayed in their full sized format. You may, however, see them in their physical splendor at our house in Kensington, MD, the address of which is given below. You can even grab a bite and practice some pool while you're at it, and the parking is a lot easier than it was in Bethesda or Georgetown.

On a related note, many of you who have visited our shop over the past few years may have also noted that in addition to the posters you see here, we also had a series of similar posters made up from digitally restored covers of old college football game programs. We are happy to say that we now have an arrangement with a leading art print distributor, American Stamp Collectibles, which is in the process of obtaining all the necessary licenses, and hopefully over the next year will be distributing these college posters to many hundreds of stores all over the country. The site to bookmark for progress reports on this is www.historicfootballposters.com, where we will also be selling them online once all the licenses are in place. At present we have inventory for well over 100 colleges, and we are obtaining new game programs every day for restoration and eventual sale. If all goes well, every major college will be represented and then some, from Ohio State to Oberlin and from Colby to California. Feel free to inquire below about your school in the meantime, and yes, even those Maroons of Chicago once had a great team, and will be available.

Our thanks to the many thousands of you who from 1984 to the end of 2006 supported the Georgetown Book Shop in our three locations. We wouldn't have traded those 23 years for anything, and we leave with our heads high and no regrets.
